Liverpool have been crowned Champions of Everything in the past year and a bit. The Reds have achieved such feats by playing the same team week in, week out. Consistency has been key to the side’s success. As a result it has proved extremely difficult for youngsters to break into the first team. Youth players have had to move out on temporary moves, Taiwo Awoniyi has just completed a loan move to Union Berlin.
Awoniyi at Liverpool
Taiwo Awoniyi joined Liverpool in 2015 from the Imperial Soccer Academy.
The Nigerian forward has since been on loan at FSV Frankfurt, NEC, Gent and Mainz to name just a few of his temporary homes.
At 23-years-old he has failed to gain a work permit to play in England, hence his various loan moves abroad.
Awoniyi joins Union Berlin
Liverpool have confirmed that Taiwo Awoniyi has joined Union Berlin on a season long loan.
This is the Nigerian’s second successive season in the German Bundesliga after he spent last season on loan at Mainz.
Given the forward’s work permit issues it makes sense for him to be loaned out.
What RTK has to say
It is a shame that Awoniyi hasn’t been able to fulfil his potential at Anfield.
The Nigerian’s work permit issues have obviously been the main reason his time on Merseyside hasn’t been a successful one.
Fingers crossed the 23-year-old is able to kick start his career with this latest loan move, we can only hope that we are able to help him in that respect given how things have gone whilst he’s been here.
He has all the potential to make it, just not at Liverpool.
