Liverpool have finally kick started their transfer window with the imminent signing of Thiago Alcantara. Sure, Kostas Tsimikas came in earlier on in the summer but he isn’t expected to feature heavily in key games. According to reports in Spain, the Reds aren’t done yet. Sport has claimed that Jürgen Klopp has asked Liverpool to sign Ousmane Dembele on loan from Barcelona.
Who is Ousmane Dembele?
In 2017, Barcelona signed Ousmane Dembele in a deal worth up to £135.5m, paying Borussia Dortmund an incredible fee for an incredible talent.
Now 23-years-old, the Frenchman hasn’t quite repaid his fee. A string of injuries have prevented the winger from settling in at the Camp Nou but there is obviously still massive potential there.
Last season the wide man bagged eight goals and five assists in 29 La Liga appearances, an unimpressive tally given his fee.
However, there is of course the consideration that he won the World Cup with France in 2018.
Liverpool looking for Dembele loan
The report states that Jürgen Klopp has asked Liverpool to loan Dembele for the season.
It is claimed that the Reds would pay a fee for the loan as well as taking on the player’s not inconsiderable wages.
The Catalan club are said to prefer to move the player on permanently if they can, probably owing to their own financial difficulties.
What RTK has to say
A load of rubbish if you ask us. Particularly given the imminent arrival of Diogo Jota.
Last season alone, Dembele missed 40 games through injury, according to Transfermarkt.
The Reds prefer players who aren’t expensive injury risks. We don’t like to splash cash on players who we can’t rely on to be consistently fit.
The Frenchman has had a torrid time with injuries throughout his career, we can’t envisage that suddenly changing at Anfield.
If the club are to bring in another wide forward then the signing of Ismaila Sarr looks much more sensible. Though, if the club did sign Dembele it would be a massive statement of intent given his undeniable talent and reputation.
