Liverpool have been clever in the transfer market this season. The Reds have sold one first team player and brought another in with a superstar arrival in the works. It is being clever in the transfer market which has brought the side such success in recent years, there could be another clever move open to the club next summer. Liverpool should consider trying to lure Eric Garcia from Manchester City on a free transfer.

Eric Garcia contract

19-year-old centre back Eric Garcia was a breakthrough star for Pep Guardiola last season.

The Spanish centre back ended up playing 13 Premier League games for Manchester City, despite his young age.

The youngster regularly showcased his intelligent reading of the game and his impressive passing ability.

The Blues may not be able to hold onto him though, The Guardian reported back in August that the Spaniard is unwilling to sign a new contract with his current deal expiring in 2021.

Liverpool should move for Eric Garcia

Jürgen Klopp is currently without a fourth choice centre back.

The Reds sold Dejan Lovren, leaving a gap in the first team squad which now looks as though it’ll be filled by Fabinho.

Given that FSG have a reputation for wanting to sign young talents whose market value will increase – given the immense potential that the City centre back has shown this will definitely be the case.

There is also the key consideration that Liverpool could sign Eric Garcia on a free transfer – they’ll be able to negotiate a contract when his deal has a month left to expire. If a deal is completed we’ll have to be compensation to City but that’ll be a paltry figure in comparison to how much he’d cost to buy outright.

For a player of his potential this would be a wonderful opportunity for the club. He ticks all the boxes and would come in in a position we’re actively looking to strengthen.

We also have precedent for this type of move with James Milner having come in from City on a free transfer at the start of the Klopp era.

Whilst there’s been no rumours of this move yet, it would be one that would make sense.
