It’s happened. The Reds have done it. Liverpool have agreed a fee for Thiago Alcantara, according to various reports. After months and months of rumours it looks as though the transfer will go through imminently. Paul Joyce has claimed that Liverpool will pay just £20m up front for Thiago, showing that Michael Edwards is still the best in the game.

The Thiago Saga

This is a story that has rumbled on and on this summer.

The Spaniard had purportedly told Bayern Munich that he didn’t want to sign a new contract as he entered the final year of his deal.

The Reds have been linked for months as a result, RMC Sport even claimed that he’d told his teammates he was heading to Anfield.

Liverpool agree Thiago fee

According to James Pearce, Melissa Reddy, Paul Joyce and just about every other journo about – Liverpool have agreed a fee for Thiago Alcantara.

Paul Joyce has reported that the Reds will pay £20m guaranteed with another £5m in bonuses.

The bonuses will be subject to the team’s performance in the Champions League and how much of a part the midfielder plays.

Mickey Edwards still on top

Michael Edwards has shown time and again in recent years that he is the best recruiter in the game.

The Liverpool executive has once again got a world class player in for a bargain fee.

For months we were told that the German giants wouldn’t budge on their €30m asking price, yet here we are, with Liverpool signing the playmaker for a mere £20m guaranteed.

Edwards has been critical to the club’s success in recent seasons, we should hold on to him for deal life.
