Liverpool have been restrained in the transfer market this summer. This is mainly due to the club sustaining losses in excess of £100m as a result of the global health crisis. So far Jürgen Klopp has only brought in Kostas Tsimikas, having sold Dejan Lovren first. As it stands the Reds are still without a replacement for Degsy, according to reports in Italy, Liverpool could move for Omar Colley of Sampdoria to fill the Croatian’s shoes.
To Russia with Lov
Ask me if I care, go on. I don’t care. This must be the tenth time I’ve used the subheading To Russia with Lov and I will use it until I stop enjoying it.
The Reds sold Croatian defender Dejan Lovren to Zenit for £10.9m at the start of the window.
The 31-year-old had dropped to fourth choice in the pecking order, a move made sense given that he is a World Cup finalist after all.
However, given that the club haven’t replaced him yet, we are without a fourth choice centre back.
Liverpool linked with Colley
According to SampNews24 in Italy, Liverpool are one of a number of clubs interested in Omar Colley.
The Reds are thought to be in a chase along with Burnley, Newcastle United and Celtic.
The 27-year-old Gambian defender kept nine clean sheets in an impressive campaign for Sampdoria last time out.
Calcio Mercato believe that the Italian club will consider offers in the region of £9m.
What RTK has to say
We can’t vouch for the authenticity of this one. We have never heard of SampNews24.
We can, however, point out that the finances make sense.
The Reds are skint due to the financial impact of the pandemic, any signings will be made on a shoe string.
£9m is about as shoe string as it gets when looking for a player capable of holding his own in the Premier League.
However, whether or not Colley can hold his own on these shores we just don’t know. We haven’t seen him play, we hadn’t heard of him until this morning.
We’ll be watching this one intently, it could be an interesting story if there are further developments.
