This weekend Liverpool kick off their title defence with a visit from newly promoted Leeds United. The Yorkshire club have been away from the top flight for what feels like forever, there is no better way to start the season – it’s just a shame that the fans aren’t there to give Leeds a warm welcome back. Here is our predicted Liverpool lineup to face Leeds United on the opening day:

Predicted Liverpool lineup to face Leeds United.

Predicted Liverpool lineup to face Leeds United.

Goalkeeper: Alisson Becker

The Brazilian will want to reclaim the Premier League Golden Glove this season having missed out due to injury last time out, a clean sheet on the opening day would be a great start.

Right back: Trent Alexander-Arnold

With Trent Alexander-Arnold having gotten some vital minutes for England we suspect that the boss will trust his fitness from the start, though Neco Williams could come on in the second half.

Centre back: Joe Gomez

The Englishman made some sloppy mistakes in pre-season but we expect him to be much more alert in a competitive fixture.

Centre back: Virgil van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk doesn’t have bad games, this weekend won’t be any different.

Left back: Andy Robertson

Andy Robbo will be out to prove that he isn’t worried about the arrival of Kostas Tsimikas.

Defensive midfield: Fabinho

The best defensive midfielder in the world will be showing Leeds United just how big of a step up it is to the Premier League.

Centre midfield: Gini Wijnaldum

Even though there is a potential move to Barcelona looming we can’t look past Gini for the midfield this weekend.

Centre midfield: Naby Keita

The Guinean midfielder is poised for a stellar season having impressed towards the backend of the last campaign.

Right wing: Mo Salah

Mo hasn’t looked the sharpest in pre-season but you can bet your bottom dollar that he’ll turn it on for the league.

Left wing: Sadio Mane

Sadio came up with the goods whenever it mattered last season, a big game against Leeds United is a prospect he’ll be relishing.

Striker: Bobby Firmino

Bobby Firmino will be bringing a level of nuance that Leeds won’t have had to contend with in the Championship, it’ll be a rude awakening.
