Liverpool completed the transfer for Kostas Tsimikas on Monday. The deal has been reported by Sky Sports to be in the region of £11.75 million.
The Greek defender was signed from Olympiakos in an attempt to provide adequate cover for left-back Andy Robertson.
One player who has quickly come to praise the signing of Liverpool’s new No.21 is former midfielder Pedro Chirivella.
The Spaniard recently ended a seven-year stay at Anfield in order to join Nantes this summer.
Chirivella, 23, and Tsimikas were teammates recently when both spent the 2017-18 campaign on loan at Dutch outfit Willem II – whom both Virgil van Dijk and Sami Hypia used to represent.
It was there that Tsimikas first caught the eye of the English champions and has since remained a target of the club.
For Chirivella, the move was a welcome one considering the bond struck between the two players during their short-time together in Holland.
He even gave Tsimikas a glowing endorsement on Instagram following the 24-year-old’s social media post that showcased his delight at joining the home of the English, European and world champions.
“We are Liverpool. What an honour to be joining this team. Can’t wait to meet you all and begin this new adventure”, he said.
Chirivella was quick to respond to his former teammate and commented ‘enjoy my brother! You deserve it’.
Chirivella also claimed that Tsimikas is in the perfect place to continue his development, with Klopp’s track-record of improving players a clear indicator in why the defender had to join the Reds.
“He’s got similar qualities to Robbo – he likes to get forward but he’s very good defending one-v-ones,” Chirivella said as per The Evening Standard.
“I think he’s going to be a great signing for the club.
“He [Klopp] will be very important for Kostas, I think he will learn a lot. He’s still young and he still has a lot of things to improve [on], like everyone, so he will be perfectly managed by the gaffer.”
