Every summer there is one rumour that just won’t go away. It typically goes like this: Liverpool are linked with exciting player, footballer in question is said to be desperate to join, rumours abound for months, top six Premier League rival swoops in and pays well over the odds for him. We’ve been down this road before and we’ve been hurt before…but this one feels different. We may even get a helping hand this time. The Liverpool move for Thiago could be boosted by Everton pursuing Rafinha.

Liverpool want Thiago

Liverpool chasing Thiago has been the story of the summer in the Red half of Merseyside.

The Spanish playmaker is entering the final year of his contract at Bayern Munich and is purportedly unwilling to extend, instead preferring to pursue a new challenge.

RMC Sport went as far as to claim that Liverpool have agreed a four-year-deal with Thiago and the fee is the final piece of the puzzle.

Everton want Rafinha

Meanwhile, on the Blue half of Merseyside there are fresh reports that Everton are pursuing Rafinha.

Sport had previously reported that Everton were interested in the attacking midfielder but a new report has pushed the story further with claims that Barcelona are keen to sell him in the near future.

The midfielder, who spent last year on loan at Celta, is reportedly also wanted by Wolves.

Alcantaras on Merseyside

Everton chasing Rafinha could boost the Liverpool pursuit of Thiago – after all, they are brothers.

If Everton were to land the Barcelona playmaker then we could see our own Alcantara target more likely to try and force through a move to Liverpool.

Settling into a new city in a new country is never easy but it is easier if your brother is there – them joining at the same time would also help Thiago transition to life in Liverpool.

For once we’ll be hoping that the Ev get their wish.
