Liverpool have been hoovering up some of the brightest talents in Europe in recent seasons. The Reds have brought in Sepp van den Berg from the Netherlands, Billy Koumetio from France and Harvey Elliott from the West End of London, all in an effort to build the best team of tomorrow. However, the club didn’t land every teenager they wanted. Liverpool failed to persuade Jeremy Doku to join the club but the teenager is hopeful they will return for him.

Liverpool wanted Doku
In July Goal wrote about when Liverpool tried to sign Jeremy Doku when he was a 16-year-old.
The article includes comments from the player’s father in which he confirms that Liverpool was his first choice for his son.
The Reds allegedly brought out the big guns, Jürgen Klopp pitched the club and Steven Gerrard spoke to the family in an effort to persuade the youngster to join the Reds.
Making progress
Doku, now 18-years-old, has become a first team regular at Anderlecht having elected to stay in Belgium.
The teenager made 21 appearances for his side last season, netting three goals and bagging three assists.
At barely the legal drinking age that is an impressive feat and he is clearly starting to deliver on the promise which attracted Liverpool in the first place.
Reds to return?
Speaking to Sport Foot magazine about the Liverpool interest Doku seemed confident that if he is good enough then the Reds will come back for him, he told the outlet:
“What I do know is that I am now playing with Anderlecht. People in my neighbourhood would advise me to go [to Liverpool], they would tell me that I might never have such an opportunity again. I see things differently.
“If Liverpool want me when I’m fifteen and confirm with the pros, Liverpool will get back to me later.”
What RTK has to say
Doku would certainly fit the profile of an FSG signing. The youngster has plenty of first team appearances at a young age, giving the recruitment team plenty to work with statswise.
He would also be comparatively inexpensive, GhanaSoccernet reported recently that Anderlecht have accepted that they will lose the teenager soon for a fee of around £18m.
Liverpool have one of the strongest squads in the world and little money to improve on it, it makes sense to invest in the starting XI of tomorrow. Maybe Liverpool will return for Doku.
