Nicolo Zaniolo registered a sensational assist against Juventus on Saturday. Liverpool must move for the Italian if he’s truly available.
Tearing Juventus apart
AS Roma ended their season on Saturday away at Juventus. Neither team were really playing for much, however, and we’ll surely remember the game instead for a moment of magic from Zaniolo.
With 51 minutes on the clock, the 21-year-old picked the ball up 35 yards from his own goal. He immediately shrugged off Blaise Matuidi and began driving with the ball through midfield.
No one could stop him. Zaniolo left two Juventus midfielders tumbling behind as he made it to the edge of their box. There, he made the final ball look easy with a delicate through ball for Diego Perotti to finish.
That made it Juventus 1, Roma 3 and while Perotti got on the scoresheet, the goal was all about Zaniolo. The Italian has been a revelation since joining from Internazionale and this goal showed exactly why.
Take note, Liverpool
Numerous reports in Italy claim that Zaniolo is available this summer. More than that, they’ve said that Liverpool want the player. Il Tempo said it. TransferMarketWeb said it. Il Sussidiario said it. Corriere Dello Sport said it.
Now, in truth, we don’t know how reliable these claims are. No one in England reports it and that certainly adds some doubt. But with so many in Italy saying the same thing, we can’t help but wonder.
We can’t help but hope, either. Zaniolo is a fantastic player and he’s still only 21 – he can end up being one of the best in the world.
The Mirror claimed at the start of May that the Reds want an attacking midfielder this summer, too. Namely, Houssem Aouar from Lyon. Zaniolo, though, is the more exciting option.
His assist against Juventus only backs that up – Zaniolo is an attacking midfielder who can do everything. He’s strong, he’s quick, he’s intelligent and he was a great final ball.
If he truly is available this summer – and Liverpool have the money – then they surely have to consider a move for Zaniolo.
