Roma may have to sell Nicolo Zaniolo to Liverpool this summer, according to reports. The Italian is a valuable asset.

Rome outlet Il Tempo makes the claim. They believe that the current economic climate means Roma can’t afford to ignore offers for Zaniolo.

The 20-year-old is arguably their most valuable asset, too, with a pre-economic-collapse-price of over £70m. And that’s fully understandable.

Zaniolo has been a revelation since joining Roma in 2018. He arrived from Inter as part of the deal that saw Radja Nainggolan leave Roma and has been fantastic ever since.

He was good enough to win Serie A’s Young Player of the Year award in his debut season and kicked on further this campaign. Unfortunately, a cruciate ligament injury prematurely ended his season in January.

But it’s still very much true that if Roma need money, Zaniolo is their best way of getting it. That might, unfortunately for them, mean another sale to Liverpool, however.

Il Tempo calls Liverpool the ‘hated Reds’ after the club took both Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker from the Italian capital. And despite not wanting to sell them yet another star, the Reds remain the only likely way to money, apparently.

Juventus allegedly want Zaniolo but will only offer players. Barcelona and Real Madrid, two potential destinations, haven’t suggested they’d bid.

But Liverpool have Zaniolo on their ‘list of goals’, according to the paper. He’s not a priority but he’s a target – and now, a potentially available one.
