Liverpool are backing their £14m duo over any transfer for Kai Havertz, according to reports. The Reds have their faith at home, it seems.
This is according to Bleacher Report, who went into detail over Havertz’s future. The German could well leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer but the club still want around £90m for him.
One of the clubs ‘in the running’ is Liverpool – although, not really. The outlet says that Liverpool sources are playing down any chance of a transfer for Havertz.
Instead, they want to put their faith in Harvey Elliott and Takumi Minamino. Both joined Liverpool in the last 12 months and both will apparently play bigger roles next season – particularly in wide areas.
What RTK has to say
We’re not exactly surprised. After pulling out of a deal for Timo Werner for reported ‘financial reasons’, there is next to no chance that Liverpool will pay £90m on anyone. Even someone as ideal as Havertz.
Even if Liverpool were willing to spend, we’d imagine they’d move for Houssem Aouar first. The Mirror said at the start of May that the Reds wanted Aouar and Werner. Werner might be gone but Aouar seems very much available.
But there’s a real chance that Liverpool sign no one. Instead, they could put their faith in two players worth around £14m, in Minamino and Elliott (the former arrived in January for £7.25m, while Fulham reportedly want £7m for the latter).
No, it isn’t as exciting as a brand new expensive signing. But right now, with the financial situation what it is, it’s the more likely scenario.
