Kai Havertz no longer appears set for Bayern Munich, according to reports, and that opens the door for Liverpool once again.

SportBild claims that Bayern have cut down their list of targets from five to two. Now only looking at Leroy Sane and a right-back, this means there will be no move for Havertz anytime soon.

They’re still interested, apparently, but unwilling to sign the player now. But then, few could at the £88m price tag.

This is a real turnaround in events, then. It was only a month ago that Sky Germany reported not only Bayern’s interest in the move but Havertz’s, too. That’s something we felt was a decisive blow to Liverpool’s interest in the German.

Reports have long claimed that Liverpool want Havertz, of course. The Independent, for one, said back in February that the Reds liked Havertz but couldn’t justify the price-tag. Something that’s especially true now.

But this SportBild report could change things. Havertz still wants to leave, apparently, but it appears that Bayern are out of the running right now. All Liverpool need now, then, is a price drop.

And they could get it, too. The same report explains how RB Leipzig have lowered their price for Dayot Upamecano – could Bayer do the same?

Upamecano is a little different given his contract soon expires but Havertz may try and force a move. If he does, Bayer would have to lower their price.

And it may bring it more in line with what Liverpool can pay. Let’s hope so – we think Havertz would be perfect at Anfield.
