Bayern Munich appear to have put an end to any chance of Liverpool signing Kai Havertz, per reports.
Sky Germany claim that not only do Bayern want Havertz, but the player wants a move to Bavaria, too. The only question that remains, in fact, is the money.
Bayer Leverkusen supposedly want around £87m for Havertz but may settle down to £61m because of the current climate. Still, that’s a lot of money in times of uncertainty.
It’s enough that Sky Germany’s experts don’t see Havertz moving this summer. The report does mention that the 20-year-old views Liverpool as a possibility, though, if things with Bayern don’t work out.
As things are, though, Havertz wants Bayern, Bayern want Havertz, and it’s simply a case of figuring out when to make it happen.
What RTK has to say
This appears to end any chances of Havertz to Liverpool. Yes, it’s mentioned that he considers Liverpool a possibility but that’s only if Bayern don’t pay.
In that scenario, it’s difficult to see how Liverpool could pay, either. The Daily Mail reported recently that the Reds aren’t negotiating at all in the current climate – not even with their own players.
Another problem would be that £61m is still above what Liverpool are reportedly prepared to pay. The Independent said back in February that Liverpool valued him at around £40m and that was before the market crashed.
Thus it seems that in any situation where Liverpool would pay that figure for Havertz, Bayern would, too. And if the player actively wants to go there, the Reds’ interest won’t count for too much.
