Liverpool want defender Ousseynou Ba but Olympiakos won’t sell until 2021, according to reports. Sadio Mane apparently recommended the player.
Both reports even claimed that Sadio Mane played a part in that interest. He apparently ‘loves’ his compatriot and Ba impressed him against Arsenal.
We wrote in our piece covering those reports that Ba makes a lot of sense, too. He’s a good age at 24, would presumably settle in a squad role and that £18m wasn’t a bad price.
Now, however, Greece’s SportDog claims the transfer can’t happen this year. Instead, Olympiakos will look to sell Ba in 2021 when they believe he’ll be at his maximum value.
What RTK has to say
Waiting another year to sell may be enough to rule out an Anfield move. Although, it could also help it through. That depends on who you believe, really.
Many outlets, such as TeamTalk here, believe Dejan Lovren will imminently leave Liverpool. Clubs are apparently lining up to sign him and the Reds are happy to sell.
But the Daily Mail believes that Liverpool have halted all negotiations. That includes sales, meaning Lovren would stay to see out his final year.
If Liverpool need to replace Lovren this year, Ba is off the menu. They’d need someone for right now. If he leaves in a year, however, Ba could be ideal.
But then, his £18m may be inflated by then. In all, we’ll have to wait and see what happens – it’s not a straightforward one.
