This summer there will be a massive reduction in the wage bill at Liverpool. Michael Edwards will be getting rid of our deadwood as he looks to bolster our ranks with young, exciting prospects who will one day take on the mantle from our first team. According to reports in Turkey, Nathaniel Clyne could be heading to Besiktas.
Liverpool signed Clyne from Southampton in 2015, paying the South Coast side £12.5m for the full back.
He had a solid couple of seasons at Anfield but ultimately his career has been hampered by injuries.
There is also the matter that the ascendancy of Trent Alexander-Arnold exposed just how unproductive Nathaniel Clyne was going forward.
We haven’t seen anything of the defender since he picked up a nasty injury last summer, with his contract expiring at the end of the season he is widely expected to leave the club.
According to Turkish outlet Posta, Nathaniel Clyne is wanted by Turkish giants Besiktas.
If he does head east then he could find himself competing with his current Liverpool teammate Xherdan Shaqiri who has been linked with a move to Galatasaray.
What RTK has to say
I’ll be frank with you, I’ve never been Clyne’s biggest fan.
Whilst he is a solid defender, his offensive ability has never been enough for Liverpool and it is a miracle we tolerated his lack of creativity for so long.
The only saving grace is that had we replaced him sooner we may not have seen Trent break through.
Having said that, it’s nothing personal Clyney. We hope that he finds a club where he can get back to full fitness and back to playing regular football.
