There are a few transfers in football that ripple through history, that set off chains of events that mark the clubs involved indelibly. One such transfer is Manchester United‘s buying of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Norwegian went on to score vital goals for the club and is now the manager at Old Trafford. Things could have been different, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed he was wanted by Liverpool before he joined United.
Solskjaer signed for Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United in 1996.
There was widespread surprise at the time as The Red Devils were still chasing Alan Shearer at Blackburn Rovers.
At the time unknown, Ole may have raised a few eyebrows but he went on to silence his doubters emphatically.
His poaching ability and boyish looks earned him the moniker ‘The Baby Faced Assassin’.

Perhaps the most famous moment of his playing career was his last minute winner in the 1999 Champions League final, poking home from six yards out with just seconds remaining
Speaking to the official Manchester United website, Solskjaer admitted that Liverpool were after him before he moved to Old Trafford:
“Were Liverpool and Bayern Munich in for me? Yes, [and] Cagliari, PSV and a couple of other teams. But I wouldn’t change the history. There was only one choice. It was fantastic when the call came”
What RTK has to say
What a turning point this has proved to be.
If Ole had moved to Anfield as opposed to Old Trafford then he wouldn’t be in the dugout down the road today.
It’s impossible to imagine a reality where he moved to Merseyside instead, although it is a surprise that Solskjaer chose United given that Liverpool are so well supported in Norway.
