Michael Edwards is going to be cleaning house this summer. The Reds’ sporting director will be raising funds by flogging deadwood to unsuspecting buyers at an exuberant price. One such player expected to leave is our Croatian defender. AS has claimed that Liverpool has a three man shortlist to replace Dejan Lovren.

Liverpool signed Lovren in 2014, handing over £20m to take the Croatian from Southampton.

Since his arrival on Merseyside he has cut a divisive figure. The centre back has given us his all but has too often made crucial mistakes at the wrong time.

Having said that he has also come good when we needed him, we can’t forget his winning header against Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League.

The arrival of Virgil van Dijk and the ascent of Joe Gomez have served push Dejan way down the pecking order and he is now expected to leave for as little as £10m according to the Liverpool ECHO.

AS has claimed that Liverpool have drawn up a three man shortlist to replace Dejan Lovren. The players cited are Jose Gimenez of Atletico Madrid, Alessandro Bastoni of Inter Milan, and Dayot Upamecano of RB Leipzig.

The Express believes that Upamecano would cost around £50m. Inter paid £28m for Bastoni. Gimenez reportedly has a release clause of €120m.

Who makes the most sense?

Gimenez is chronically crocked so he is out of the question. There is no sense in splashing out on a defender who cannot stay fit, we already have Joe Gomez for that.

At just 20-years-old Bastoni is an interesting proposition, however, Inter don’t need to sell and would likely demand a king’s ransom.

Upamecano is far and away the best choice. The 21-year-old is tipped to be one of the best defenders of his day, if we are able to nab him for £50m then we shouldn’t think twice.
