Liverpool are on the verge of their first top flight title in 30 years, they are also hot favourites to retain the Champions League. With the standards being set high at Anfield we can expect players to be moved on as they look for first team football. According to a report in the Liverpool ECHO, Liverpool could make a £10m loss on Dejan Lovren.

The Reds signed Lovren in July 2014, paying Southampton £20m for the defender.

The Croatian has had an up and down time at the club. He was often pointed to as an epitome of what was wrong with the Liverpool defence: mostly stoic but too often found wanting with hapless errors.

However, Kopites will never forget his back header as The Reds completed their comeback against Borussia Dortmund.

According to the Liverpool ECHO, Liverpool could lower their asking price for Dejan Lovren from £14m to £10m in order to attract more interest.

What RTK has to say

This figure would represent a £10m loss on the World Cup finalist but given that he is 30-years-old, fourth in the pecking order and has given the club six years of service, we can’t complain.

The Croatian is unlikely to figure in Jürgen Klopp’s plans next season given the levels that the first team are hitting at the moment, particularly the defence.

Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk will likely play every game next season providing the duo stay fit.

If either of the first choice defenders are forced to drop out of the side then Joel Matip will be waiting in the wings.

We’ve no doubt that Lovren will go on to be an important figure wherever he ends up – he is an undeniably talented defender, just a bit too error prone for this Liverpool side.
