Whilst there is no football on the television we will be spending our time finding things to be thankful for when it comes to Liverpool. The Reds have already given us a lot to be grateful this year – remember when they battered Manchester City earlier this season? C’est bon. We can also be thankful that Liverpool didn’t buy Luka Jovic – they were linked with the flop this time last year.

Luka Jovic is undoubtedly one of the most promising and frustrating strikers in Europe.
During the 2018/19 season the striker was devastating the German Bundesliga.
Jovic netted 17 goals and bagged 5 assists across 25 starts and seven substitute appearances in the Bundesliga, in the Europa League he netted 10 in 11 starts.
This time last year Liverpool were just one of a number of teams being credited with interest in Luka Jovic, with Bild reporting the interest.
In the summer the Serbian ended up joining Real Madrid – The Guardian reported an initial fee of €65m.
Since arriving at the Bernabeu things just haven’t got going for the 22-year-old striker. He has earned just four starts for Los Blancos, making 11 appearances from the bench.
In total Jovic has just two goals across these 15 appearances, with one assist along the way.
It appears as though Liverpool got away with one if their interest was as solid as reported.
€65m is a tremendous amount of money for a striker that just can’t score. We must stress though, we firmly believe that Jovic will come good eventually.
It was simply too early for such a big move. He was the main man at Eintracht Frankfurt and has become a small fish in a big pond in Madrid – many wilt under similar circumstances, just look at Philippe Coutinho at Barcelona.
We can rest east that we didn’t make the mistake that Madrid did. Maybe in the future we could take him at a cut price and get the best out of him.
