This summer Liverpool are expected to bring in a number of new faces, however, they may also have to deal with bids for some of their brightest stars – when you are the best team in the world interest is inevitable. Steve Nicol has urged Liverpool to sign Timo Werner if they sell Sadio Mane.

Mane arrived on Merseyside after The Reds paid Southampton £34m for his services in 2016.

Since his signing he has become one of the most feared forwards in world football.

The 2018/19 season saw Sadio take home one third of the Premier League Golden Boot, sharing the award with teammate Mo Salah and Gooner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

This season has seen some of the best of the Senegalese winger, he has notched 14 goals and seven assists in the Premier League, often coming up with big goals when needed – we’ll never forget his winner at Aston Villa.

El Desmarque recently reported that Real Madrid are desperate to bring Mane to the Spanish capital. Steve Nicol has told ESPN that Liverpool need to sign Timo Werner if they lose Mane:

“[Selling Mane is] only any good if you bring in Timo Werner. Unfortunately, there aren’t many [players like Werner] around. What if Werner wants to go elsewhere?

“If you’re going to get £140 million for Sadio Mane and you have someone like Timo Werner available, then I think you can take the chance.”

What RTK has to say

We highly doubt that we’ll lose Sadio.

If Liverpool did sell the winger then Timo Werner wouldn’t be the only Mane replacement.

We would expect The Reds to bring in someone of the calibre of Jadon Sancho if we were to lose our star winger.

However, this is all a distant hypothetical – we aren’t selling Sadio, he’s happy here. We can sign Werner without losing Mane, his release clause is just £50m according to the Liverpool ECHO.
