This summer Liverpool will likely do big business. The first team are the strongest in the world, they are world champions after all. The majority of the first XI are all tied down to long term contracts and as such won’t need replacing any time soon, however, some are getting on a bit. Liverpool should sign Marcel Sabitzer to replace James Milner.
Sabitzer has been with RB Leipzig since 2014. That’s right, the Austrian has been around since the Champions League wildcards were still in the German second division.
Following a year on loan at sister club Red Bull Salzburg, the 26-year-old has been a mainstay in the Leipzig midfield.
This has been a strong season in particular for the stalwart. He has bagged eight goals and five assists in the from midfield in the Bundesliga.
In the Champions League his record is even more impressive, he’s netted four goals and picked up two assists in seven games.
Sabitzer recently grabbed the headlines when he scored a brace against Tottenham as Leipzig dumped Jose Mourinho’s side out of the Champions League.
The Austrian would be the ideal Jürgen Klopp signing and the perfect man to replace James Milner.
This season alone the 26-year-old has played in eight positions for Leipzig (via WhoScored). When Milly retires we will need someone to take over the mantle of ‘utility man’.
Further to his versatility he is a hard worker and plays in a RB Leipzig that that play a similar brand of football to Liverpool, meaning he would need less time to adjust – even less if we brought in his teammate Timo Werner.
With a lower profile than many other names being touted, he would come much cheaper. We need another everywhere man soon, Sabitzer could be the man.
