Liveprool squad considered the world’s most valuable in recent study

The CIES Football Observatory has labelled Liverpool’s squad as the most valuable in world football.

We’ve written before on CIES studies that again reflected very well on Liverpool. Once again, they value the Reds very highly, using a ‘scientific’ method for each player, as explained here.

This time, CEIS has taken who they consider to be the 20 most valuable players from each squad in Europe’s top five leagues. From that, they’re able to rank each team.

So sitting at the very bottom is Paderborn from the Bundesliga. They value their squad at just €37m, which would explain why they’re sitting at the bottom of the league.

But at the other end of the scale is Liverpool, whose squad CIES values at a whopping €1.4bn. That puts them just ahead of Manchester City, whose €1.361bn is good enough for second.

Then come the two Spanish giants, Barcelona (€1.17bn) and Real Madrid (€1.1bn). That perhaps sums up Liverpool’s rise as well as anything. It wasn’t long ago at all that Liverpool were far behind the duo, losing their best players to them with some regularity.

Behind those two come Chelsea and Manchester United, both valued at €1bn. So that puts Liverpool’s squad at an enormous €400m more valuable than United’s – a very nice statistic indeed.

Now, all this is quite subjective as it is just CIES’ take on values. But nowhere else puts in quite this much work into defining a player’s value. For that reason, you can make some judgments on the data.

For Liverpool, the primary takeaway is the work Jurgen Klopp and everyone else has done at the club to raise performance levels. The ability each player shows on the pitch plays a huge part in their value. Klopp has done such incredible work squeezing all the potential out of each player, earning them these values.
