Liverpool represented brilliantly in 100 most valuable players list

CIES Football Observatory has published a list of the 100 most valuable players in the world, with Liverpool shining.

Kylian Mbappe sits on top of the list, valued at £244.5m – no surprise there. Second, though, is Mohamed Salah, who CIES value at £195.6m.

That’s a huge increase on the £37.4m the Reds initially paid AS Roma in 2017. That’s not the only example of Liverpool’s brilliant transfer business, however.

The Reds have three players inside the top 10 – the only club to do so – as both Sadio Mane (£140.6m) and Roberto Firmino (£128.4m) make it.

And so Liverpool have the most valuable attack in the world, reportedly worth £464.6m. Given that Mane arrived for £34m and Firmino for £29m, the Reds have seen an increase of value worth £364.2m.

There’s one other area that Liverpool shine. Not only is Trent Alexander-Arnold ranked as the most valuable defender in the world (£116m), the Reds have the next two, as well.

Virgil van Dijk sits 22nd in the list as the next highest defender, valued at £99.9m. You then have to drop 10 places to find no.3: Andy Robertson at £78.7m.

The defensive trio cost far less, of course. Van Dijk cost £75m, Robertson an initial £8m, and Alexander-Arnold came through the academy.

The £83m that Liverpool spent is now worth £294.6m – a rise of £211.6m. That’s an incredible rise in value, highlighting the incredible progress of Liverpool’s defence.

Combined, Liverpool’s defence and attack have shot up in value by £575.8m.

At the end of the day, that’s down to the scouting and development of the players. Liverpool’s starting XI is now fantastically valuable – not solely through spending, but the work of the club as a whole.
