This week saw Tottenham dumped out of the Champions League by RB Leipzig. The Lilywhites were thoroughly beaten by Julian Nagelsmann’s side, with Leipzig’s star forward impressing without scoring. Leipzig progressing means Liverpool should step up their Timo Werner pursuit.
Spurs had a tough task on their hands when they arrived in Leipzig.
The North London side lost the first leg 1-0 at home, without an out and out first team striker fit to start it looked unlikely that they’d be able to overturn the deficit.
It quickly became apparent that the visitors didn’t stand a chance. Marcel Sabitzer fired past Hugo Lloris after 10 minutes before heading home 10 minutes after that.
In the 87th minute Emil Forsberg came on and scored with his first touch to compound the misery and leave the aggregate score at 4-0.
With RB Leipzig heading deeper into the competition, Liverpool need to ramp up their pursuit of Timo Werner.
The German forward has been hotly tipped to join The Reds in the summer but there has always been reported interest from elsewhere.
The longer that Werner continues to impress in the Champions League, the more competition Jürgen Klopp can expect for his signature.
Performing in big games is the hallmark of a top class forward, if pulls out some top draw performances later in the competition then other clubs may be swayed to do battle with The Reds for his signature.
Real Madrid in particular are desperate for a top class striker with the Luka Jovic experiment failing, we don’t want them gazumping us after an impressive European run for Leipzig.
