This has been an absolutely extraordinary season to be a Liverpool fan. The Reds have stormed their way into a gigantic 25 point lead at the top of the table and are on course to win the title in record time. Following their victory over Bournemouth, Liverpool can now win the Premier League before their next domestic match.
The Reds swept aside Eddie Howe’s spirited Bournemouth at Anfield on Saturday.
The visitors went ahead after just nine minutes when Callum Wilson shoved Joe Gomez to put The Cherries on the attack, moments later Wilson tapped in from close range.
However, in typical Jürgen Klopp fashion, the hosts kept their heads and swiftly turned the game on its head, going in to the break 2-1 up thanks to goals from Sadio Mane and Mo Salah.
The second half saw Sadio Mane crack the angle of the goal and James Milner pull off a gymnastic goal line clearance but the score remained at 2-1.
The result means that Liverpool now have the slim possibility of winning the Premier League before they kick another ball in the division.
This is, of course, a massive long shot. The Reds winning it before their next league game depends on Manchester City losing all three of their next three.
Today Pep Guardiola’s side take on Manchester United at Old Trafford before travelling to Arsenal on Wednesday and hosting Burnley on the Saturday.
Will Pep’s men lose all three? Not likely. However, if – just if – they do, then The Reds will march out at Goodison Park as champions a week on Monday.
