This weekend Liverpool lost to Watford. It was weird and we still haven’t quite processed it, we’re just trying to have a laugh about it. The Reds were bound to lose eventually and we’re sure they’ll bounce back quickly. Following the loss at Vicarage Road, Owen Hargreaves has backed Liverpool to look at Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure.
Prior to Saturday’s game Liverpool had gone 44 unbeaten in the league.
The Reds’ tremendous record stretched all the way back to January 2019 when they lost narrowly away at Manchester City.
This, however, was no narrow defeat; Jürgen Klopp’s men were thoroughly beaten by Nigel Pearson’s side with The Hornets thrashing Liverpool 3-0.
The hosts simply wanted it more and it showed, in fairness they have much more to play for at the moment and those three points will prove vital in the final reckoning when it comes to the relegation battle.
Speaking to Premier League Productions, Owen Hargreaves backed Liverpool to take a look at Abdoulaye Doucoure, believing he could do a job at Anfield, saying:
“[Doucoure] is one of the most influential players in the Premier League who doesn’t play in the big six…
“This guy could play in Liverpool’s midfield that’s how good he is.”
What RTK has to say
If he was a few years younger then Doucoure would be the ideal Jürgen Klopp signing.
However, at 27-years-old he wouldn’t be in line with current transfer policy.
The only way we could see this one working would be if The Hornets go down and the midfielder is available at a bargain rate.
Would he do a job at Liverpool? Most likely. Is he too old for the money he would cost? At the moment, yes.
