Luis Suarez lavishes praise on Liverpool fans - calls them 'the best'

Liverpool have historically boasted one of the most ferocious and committed fan bases around, they are one of the few clubs that can confidently refer to their supporters as the twelfth man. Their influence hasn’t been forgotten in Spain, Luis Suarez has referred to Liverpool fans as ‘the best’.

Suarez signed for The Reds back in January 2011, leaving Ajax in a £22.8m deal.

What followed his arrival was sheer magic. For three and a half years Anfield was treated to the Uruguayan’s mercurial talent.

The forward pulled out some spectacular feats during his time on Merseyside. Who can forget his hat-trick of hat-tricks against Norwich? He scored 10 goals in three games against the Canaries and every one of them was a belter.

He frankly turned football into theatre whilst at the club. Whenever he was in possession you were excited, you wondered what he was about to do to the defender in front of him.

Looking back on his time at Anfield, Luis Suarez has praised the Liverpool fans. He told Otro:

Raphinha, Coutinho and Tielemans: The signings Liverpool could make this summer

“They are among the best football fans because of all the love they always gave me during my time at Liverpool.

“They have always loved me and treated me exceptionally well. That’s why they are among the best football fans in the world. For me, the best.”

What RTK has to say

Unfortunately we have a complicated relationship with Luis.

He marked a low point in our recent history when we came out in such defiant support of him during his episode with Patrice Evra. This writer personally deeply regrets the way we acted around that incident, Jamie Carragher agrees.

Whilst he did treat us to some of the finest pieces of football we’ve seen this millennium he forced a move away and tarnished the club’s reputation with some of his disciplinary issues.
