Just what Liverpool will do this summer is anybody’s guess: will they spend big on a Nike sponsored megastar or will they opt for a shrewd bargain buy? According to David Ornstein it could be the latter with the journalist claiming Liverpool have stepped up their pursuit of Todd Cantwell.
Back in December we wrote that it was only a matter of time before rumours surfaced linking Liverpool with a move for Todd Cantwell.
The 21-year-old English midfielder has been a shining light during a stormy season for Norwich.
With six goals and two assists for a team bottom of the table it has been a pretty solid debut season in the top flight for the youngster.
According to a tweet and attached article by David Ornstein, Liverpool have redoubled their efforts in pursuing Todd Cantwell.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool signing Todd Cantwell would be a helluva move.
The 21-year-old fits the FSG transfer model perfectly: he is young, versatile and always improving.
We are also massive admirers of his big game mentality, few Kopites will forget his role in Norwich’s defeat of Manchester City earlier in the season.
Signing Cantwell would also be a clever move as it would mark a continuation of our successful transfer policy.
This would be a reprise of when The Reds brought in Gini Wijnaldum and Andy Robertson from relegated sides.
Both Gini and Robbo have proved to be inspired purchases, Cantwell would surely be a further addition to our successful Championship raids.
If we did bring him in we’d expect Cantwell to operate as a creative central midfielder rather than on the left wing where we have often seen him this season.
