This weekend Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the table to a sensational 25 points. The Reds earned a hard fought three points at Carrow Road in stormy conditions. The 1-0 Liverpool win over Norwich is more impressive than it seems at first glance.
Chances were few and far between on Saturday afternoon.
Norwich sat in a low block to keep the Premier League champions elect at bay, affording Jürgen Klopp’s men little space to maneuver in the final third.
Tim Krul pulled off some fine stops to deny Mo Salah and Naby Keita whilst Alisson Becker was at his best at the other end keeping out Teemu Pukki.
It took Sadio Mane firing past Tim Krul at the near post to clinch the win for The Reds, with the Senegalese forward finding the net after bringing down Jordan Henderson’s inch perfect pass.
The Liverpool win over Norwich was impressive given the conditions, the opposition and the Premier League winter break.
There can be no denying that The Reds looked leggy and out of practice throughout the game. The winter break may have rejuvenated the squad but there appeared to be a loss of rhythm.
We must also consider that Norwich have become adept at pulling off upsets this season. The basement boys have taken more points off the top four than they have the bottom six, they bring out their big guns when they face the big guns.
Combine the legginess of the lads and the determination of The Canaries with the gales of the approaching Storm Dennis and you have a recipe for an upset.
The wind provided stiff opposition but Liverpool managed to pull through and beat an impressive, plucky Norwich side. The Reds keep marching on.
