Liverpool have been linked with all and sundry in recent months. With The Reds certain to lift the Premier League and strong favourites for the Champions League, many pundits have been speculating as to how they will spend their riches. If Liverpool do sign Timo Werner we could see Roberto Firmino switch position.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Werner for over a year.
The 23-year-old Germany forward has been in scorching form in the Bundesliga this season, netting 20 goals in 21 games for RB Leipzig.
According to SportBild in Germany (via Sport Witness), The Reds are serious about their pursuit and the striker is aware that the Anfield club are the ‘idea’ suitors due to their style of play matching Leipzig’s.
If Werner were to arrive on Merseyside, we could see Roberto Firmino drop into midfield.
When Liverpool first signed Bobby Firmino he was operating as a goal scoring attacking midfielder for Hoffenheim, now and then filling in up top.
Under Jürgen Klopp’s tutelage he has been transformed into a pressing false nine, often dropping deep to create space behind himself for Sadio Mane and Mo Salah.
Timo Werner is far too good a player to be sat on the bench a majority of the time. If the German forward were to arrive we could see him accommodated by reverting Firmino to his old position.
This could kill two birds with one stone as Firmino would provide goals from midfield, something The Reds have been decidedly lacking in since the departure of Philippe Coutinho.
There can be no doubting that Firmino has the legs for the Reds midfield, he has become a pressing machine up top in recent seasons, his creativity and work rate make him an ideal candidate for the point of The Reds’ midfield.
