This Liverpool side are tough to improve. The Independent believe that most of the club’s summer business will be focused on adding variety to the squad. With a number of players linked and a number of youth prospects breaking through, we give you our potential 11 for 2020/21 – of course baring in mind that we will not be signing every player in the lineup – think of it as a roundup of potential new faces.
Goalkeeper: Ugurcan Cakir – Trabzonspor
This is a tricky one, Liverpool have long been linked with the Turkish keeper but there is a school of thought that The Reds are being used by Trabzonspor to drive up the price.
Right back: Neco Williams – youth
The Welshman will nearly certainly be making sporadic first team appearances next season as Jürgen Klopp looks to preserve the fitness of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Centre back: Diego Carlos – Sevilla
The Brazilian centre back was the subject of a flurry of rumours a few months ago, with many outlets reporting that Liverpool were looking to bring him in for next season. With Joe Gomez flourishing this seems less likely.
Centre back: Sepp van den Berg – youth
Having arrived from PEC Zwolle last summer Van Den Berg has impressed when given the chance. Most recently the towering Dutchman put in a fine display against Shrewsbury Town, we may see more of him next year.
Left back: Yasser Larouci – youth
Larouci was incredibly impressive when thrust into the FA Cup win over Everton. With no natural backup for Andy Robertson at the club, we could see the youngster step up more regularly.
Defensive midfield: Sandro Tonali – Brescia
This writer’s pick of the bunch. If Liverpool brought in Tonali it could be one of the club’s best buys of recent times. The 19-year-old defensive midfielder has drawn comparisons to Andrea Pirlo and Gennaro Gattuso, he is sure to be one of the finest midfielders of his generation.
Centre midfield: Curtis Jones – youth
The Scouser has been a standout performer in The Reds’ cup campaigns this season, we will likely see him stepping into the first team more often when the Premier League is secured.
Centre midfield: Kai Havertz – Bayer Leverkusen
The German is one of the most sought after youngsters in world football, whether or not The Reds are willing to stump up the cash to secure him remains to be seen. One thing is for certain though: he is destined for a bright future in the game.
Ring wing: Harvey Elliott – youth
At just 16-years-old we have already seen the mountains of potential Harvey Elliott has in his locker. Next season will likely see him afforded more game time provided The Reds don’t bring in another right winger.
Striker: Kylian Mbappe – PSG
Let us dream, ok? It will likely never happen. But. If it does, who could possibly stop Liverpool?
Left wing: Timo Werner – RB Leipzig
IF we were to sign Kylian Mbappe then Werner would have to be thrust out to the wing. Even if we don’t sign Mbappe it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Werner operating as a wide poacher with Roberto Firmino opening up the space for him.
