This January was a relatively busy one for Liverpool. The Reds sent a few players out on loan and brought in a couple of forwards. Speaking to Soccer AM (via Liverpool’s club site), Joe Gomez has hailed our first signing, Takumi Minamino, as “an unbelievable addition”.
The Reds agreed a deal in December to bring in Minamino from Salzburg for just £7.25m.
The Japanese forward had stood out in both legs of Liverpool’s Champions League ties with Red Bull Salzburg.
Takumi netted at Anfield in the first leg in October and was impressive with his movement and determination in the reverse fixture in December.
When it was announced that the club had activated the attacker’s paltry release clause Kopites were overjoyed, believing he fits the Jürgen Klopp system like a glove.
Speaking to Soccer AM, Joe Gomez has heaped praise on Takumi Minamino, saying:
“Everyone was aware of him from when we played them – just like when he came to Anfield, what he did and how well he took the game.
“I think as well his desire to press and adapt to our style of play…he has that tenacity about him to want to get about and put pressure [on], an unbelievable addition.”

It’s encouraging to hear Joe Gomez give Takumi Minamino such a glowing report.
It’s no secret that Minamino hasn’t fully settled into the side yet, his first few performances were underwhelming in terms of end product but he did display a lot of determination in these outings.
As JoGo noted, the new man has the ‘desire’ to play for Liverpool, when you’re playing under Jürgen Klopp that is half the battle. The gaffer asks a lot of his players, it is important that they have the desire to learn and give it their all.
