This summer will see the beginning of Liverpool’s new Nike kit partnership. The club will lift the Premier League trophy in a New Balance kit and will do the same the next year in a Nike one. Liverpool fans should be excited by the latest Nike kit confirmation.
Over the years supporters have criticised the Oregon sportswear giants for their use of templates.
This is to say that people have gotten a little tired of the company producing kits for dozens of teams but with only a few different designs.
One Kopite recently tweeted that he hoped that whoever was designing Nike’s kits for Nigeria would be in charge of the Liverpool design so that we didn’t get given some “template b*******”.
Senior Nike director Heidi Burgett replied saying:
“We’re ditching the templates. For the 2020 kits, Nike designers had 65 chassis options available to them across varying necklines, sleeves, cuffs, badge placement, etc.
“From hand-drawn prints to custom fonts, each team’s look will be its own.”
What RTK has to say
This is fantastic news.
One of the very few concerns that fans had about switching to Nike was their notorious laziness in the design department.
The Liverpool kit is iconic and has been since the days of Bill Shankly, to handle it with the same slap dash approach that Nike have handled the rest of their attire for the past few seasons would have been an injustice.
Thankfully we can now rest easy knowing that they are hard at work conjuring up something that is uniquely Liverpool.
