The Reds are top of the league, they’re champions of Europe and champions of the world – the players that left Anfield for better things must be kicking themselves. One such player could be returning to the Premier League, reports in Italy have suggested that Tottenham are weighing up a move for Emre Can.
Emre left Liverpool for Juventus after the 2018 Champions League final.
The German joined the Italian giants on a free transfer after running down his contract on Merseyside.
Can’s first season in Italy was largely successful, he made 29 appearances in the league in 2018/19.
However, Maurizio Sarri has not been sold on Emre’s virtues. Can has found himself frozen out of the Champions League squad and has started just two games for the Turin side.
With a move away from the Allianz needed to get his career back on track, we can expect the ex-Liverpool man to switch clubs before the start of next season.
According to a report in The Express, Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a £25m move for Emre Can.
What RTK has to say
It has been incredibly satisfying watching Philippe Coutinho and Emre Can’s careers collapse after leaving Liverpool.
The pair of them believed they were bigger than the club and wanted to win the biggest trophies.
Of course, Liverpool went on to win the Champions League with Emre and Coutinho watching at home.
Now Phil isn’t wanted by Bayern and frozen out at Barcelona and Emre Can can’t get a game at Juve.
The spiral in their careers will serve as a warning to other players that want to treat Anfield as a stepping stone.
Hopefully Tottenham do sign Emre, it would be great to see Fabinho fly through him in front of the Kop. We have nothing against him as a person, he just made a very stupid decision and the schadenfreude of watching him suffer the repercussions has been delightful.
