The Reds are top of the league. The squad are tied down to long term contracts. We have some of the best youth players around. How do we improve? We keep building for the future. Liverpool should move for Gabriel Martinelli, Jürgen Klopp clearly likes him.
Arsenal signed the 18-year-old Brazilian in summer 2019.
The wonderkid has impressed the North London faithful with this his sporadic performances this season.
The Brazilian has netted three goals in four Europa League starts, bagging two assists in these games. He has also scored three times in the league – most recently notching in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea.
Kopites will remember him from his brace in the League Cup at Anfield.
The game finished 5-5, with Curtis Jones scoring the decisive penalty in the shootout. Speaking after the game, Jürgen Klopp told the official Liverpool club site that Martinelli is “a talent of the century, an incredible striker.”
There can be no doubt that the youngster is destined for a bright future in the game.
If Liverpool were to sign Martinelli it would be in keeping with our transfer policy of recent seasons.
Last summer we brought in Harvey Elliott and Sepp Van Den Berg, two of the highest rated teenagers in Europe.
To bring in Arsenal’s teenage wonderkid would help us bolster our centre forward prospects. Rhian Brewster is currently trying to prove himself in the Championship as he has failed to break into Jürgen’s first team plans.
If Brewster fails to live up to his potential it would be worthwhile to have another young striker breaking through and given the performances we’ve seen from Martinelli so far, he could even be a backup to Roberto Firmino for when our current number nine needs a rest.
