Being the best team in the world, Liverpool have an impressive squad to call upon when needed. The Reds will always play their strongest XI but when fixtures pile up the backup brigade are more than capable – hence why the boss wants to keep ahold of them. Jürgen Klopp has explained why he won’t be selling Xherdan Shaqiri any time soon.

There has been numerous reports of interest in Shaqiri of late.

In December he allegedly turned down a loan move to Galatasaray.

Whilst James Pearce reported this week that the club had rejected loan offers from Sevilla and Roma.

The Swiss international has had his opportunities limited by injury this season but he has impressed when available.

The Merseyside Derby in December was a showcase for the ex-Stoke man’s ability as he netted his side’s second goal against Everton.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of a trip to Wolves, Jürgen Klopp was asked about whether or not he’d let Xherdan Shaqiri go. The boss told the media:

“In the majority of December we had the bench full of kids, wonderful kids but kids. So how can we think of selling anybody? We have to keep them for sorting our situation, not situation of other clubs. No intention from our side to do anything.”

What RTK has to say

This is exactly what we expected from the boss.

Little Big Jed Shaqiri has become an essential backup star and when he is fit there are few better substitutes in the Premier League.

James Pearce claimed that the club are open to selling the winger but not until the summer, this makes a lot more sense.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Swiss international move on in a few months time, he’s 28-years-old and he should be playing every week.

Over the summer we will have the time to source a replacement and get him up to speed in pre-season, for now he needs to stay.
