This Liverpool side have gained a reputation as an invincible force. Jürgen Klopp has drilled his squad into utter perfection. The back line has been key to this unbeatable streak. One stat in particular demonstrates how undroppable Joe Gomez is.

2019 was a tough year for Joe Gomez for the most part.

In 2018 the England defender had been The Reds first choice to partner Virgil van Dijk until he had his leg broken by a reckless Ben Mee challenge away at Burnley.

Joel Matip seized his opportunity and stepped into the Liverpool defence, rapidly becoming the most improved defender in Europe.

The Cameroonian centre half became a fan favourite, him and Virgil struck up an understanding quickly and the lanky fill in became a regular fixture.

When JoGo recovered from his injury he still couldn’t force his way back in, Matip kept his place and then Dejan Lovren was afforded a few opportunities until he picked up an injury of his own.

Since the Englishman has been thrust back into the starting lineup we have put together an incredible clean sheet record that now totals seven consecutive games.

Daniel Storey pointed out on Twitter just how undroppable Joe Gomez has become. Storey pulled up the incredible stat that Liverpool have conceded just six goals in Gomez’s last 22 Premier League starts.

If he is fit, JoGo simply has to start.

The Three Lions defender is just 22-years-old, he is one of the brightest defensive talents in world football yet he doesn’t get anywhere near the recognition he deserves.

Gomez perhaps suffers from playing alongside Van Dijk in that people believe the Dutchman makes anybody’s life easier. Soon the world will wake up to just how frighteningly good Joe Gomez is. We just can’t drop him.
