Our view: John Henry tunnel meeting with Klopp says a lot about success

It’s quite easy to forget the dark days at Liverpool FC. A lot of us have written them out of our memories or have drowned them in celebratory drinks. Things were dire under the Hicks-Gillette ownership but FSG rescued us. Some behind the scenes footage of John Henry and Jürgen Klopp says a lot about our success at the moment.

Last weekend saw Liverpool run out comfortable 2-0 winners over their local rivals Manchester United.

It was another champions’ performance from the hosts as they strangled any life out of the game within the first 20 minutes.

It was the type of performance that Jürgen’s Reds have become known for, they restricted the opposition and looked deadly when going forward.

After the game the Inside Anfield cameras captured John Henry and Jürgen Klopp in the tunnel.

The boss was making his way around the innards of Anfield when he spotted Linda Pizzuti-Henry, the film producer took the boss off guard and congratulated him – Jürgen told her he didn’t know she was coming to which she replied: “SURPRISE!”

John Henry enters the picture to congratulate Klopp, telling him “Wow, amazing. Just amazing”.

What RTK has to say

The pair are genuinely so happy to see Jürgen and he is so happy to see them.

This is just so heartwarming and encouraging to see but their relationship says a lot about the success we’ve had on the pitch.

The relationship between the previous owners and the club was fractious at best. They were despised.

Now, from top to bottom, everybody is united and pushing in the same direction.

The fans, the staff, the players, the management and the ownership are all getting along.

John Henry also deserves a lot of credit for how he has conducted himself. Does he phone ahead to warn the players he’s watching them? No. He lays in the background and surprises them with congratulations later on.

A gentleman and a terrific businessman that we owe a lot to.
