The Reds are utterly relentless at the minute. Jürgen’s Reds are top of the league by 16 points, with a game in hand over second placed Leicester City – they have a 17 point lead over champions Manchester City. Their win against Spurs saw them become the first team in European history to win 20 of their first 21 games of a season. The win was thanks to a goal from our talismanic number nine – Gary Neville has been drooling over Roberto Firmino after his match winning display.
Liverpool went ahead after 37 minutes. Jordan Henderson was fierce in a 50/50, nodding the ball onto Mo Salah into the penalty area who in turn found Roberto Firmino in space. Bobby’s first touch was classy and his finish was even better as he fired past the helpless Paulo Gazzaniga.
Of course, people have done their best to try and stir up some controversy – pundits and fans have dragged replays back to a throw in which should have been given to Spurs but was given to the visitors.
“Any manager in the world would love to have Firmino as their centre-forward, I think he’s absolutely incredible. He’s selfless, brilliant, scores goals, sets things up, they can link off him, makes all the right runs, an outstanding player.”
What RTK has to say
Gary Neville being a fan of Roberto Firmino is nothing new. The Manchester United legend regularly waxes lyrical about the Brazilian front man.
The Mancunian is incredibly fond of the selflessness that we see from Bobby. The striker has carved out his own role at Liverpool, a unique role that is somehow somewhere between a false nine and a poacher – he often drops right into midfield and then pops up on the six yard box. He really is a unique forward in world football.
