This weekend saw Liverpool smash records, equal records, make records. Jürgen Klopp’s side ran out comfortable 1-0 winners when they took on Tottenham Hotspur at their new stadium. The post match analysis was largely swooning over the Reds but one man in particular isn’t getting enough credit apparently – Jamie Carragher has said that Jürgen Klopp doesn’t get enough credit for the work he does.
The Reds have asserted themselves as champions elect in the Premier League. Liverpool are currently 14 points clear of Manchester City with a game in hand, it is all but mathematically finished.
Speaking after the game, the Sky Sports studio were discussing just how the Reds were transformed – recruitment was highlighted. Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports that Jürgen Klopp doesn’t get enough credit for what he does after the buys:
“Liverpool are looked at as this model for everyone else to copy now with recruitment. It’s not that Liverpool are just buying players and have this special ability where nobody else sees these players. Robertson got relegated with Hull, Wijnaldum got relegated with Newcastle…Once you’ve got that player you’ve got to improve that player, that’s what Jürgen Klopp doesn’t get enough credit for: the actual work that he does as a coach – Liverpool aren’t buying superstars, they’re making superstars.”
What RTK has to say
Carra is spot on with his comments. Jürgen Klopp has worked miracles since his arrival on Merseyside. His net spend in comparison to his league position is phenomenal.
If the Reds maintain their transfer policy and training regime then this will be a team for the ages. our next big concern is finding a manager than can fill Jürgen’s shoes when he finally packs it in – either that or we’ll have to splash more cash in the transfer market.
