This January has already been busier than we expected. Many Kopites were resigned to absolutely no movement at Anfield – we have already seen Takumi Minamino and Joe Hardy arrive at the club and a flurry of players leave on loan, namely Rhian Brewster, Herbie Kane and Isaac Christie-Davies. According to reports from across the continent, Liverpool are lining up a January move for Samuel Chukwueze of Villareal.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the Reds linked with a move for the Nigerian winger. There were reports back in September that Liverpool were set to rival Manchester City for the youngster – completing an all-African attack at the club.
Chukwueze is seen as one of the hottest prospects in Spanish football at the minute. The 20-year-old has bagged three goals and an assist in his 11 starts in the division this season.
According to French publication Foot Mercato, Liverpool are looking to sign Samuel Chukwueze ahead of Lyon and Chelsea. The report states that the player has been “promised” to a Premier League club. The Daily Mail have suggested that whilst his release clause stands at around £50m, a deal can be done around the £34m mark.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool signing Samuel Chukwueze would be a much better move than bringing in the likes of Jadon Sancho or Kylian Mbappe.
Jürgen Klopp likes players hungry to prove themselves, players with a desire to learn. Why spend a king’s ransom on a megastar when you can buy a youngster with boundless potential that you can mould in your vision?
Whether or not this move transpires remains to be seen but it certainly fits Michael Edwards’ profile of recent seasons, he would certainly be an exciting signing.
