It looks inevitable that the Reds will bring in a winger in the next year or so. At the minute we boast two of the best wide men in the world in Sadio Mane and Mo Salah but we don’t have sufficient quality to back them up. For a while papers have linked Jürgen Klopp with a move for Jadon Sancho, however – according to The Star – Liverpool will move for Leon Bailey instead.

Signing a winger or two will be high up on Klopp’s list of priorities. If we want to compete in the long term and cement our place at the peak of world football we need to be able to rest our forwards when needed. At the minute we’re asking far too much of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah.

Jadon Sancho has been touted as a potential signing for a while now. There have been conflicting reports surrounding the England winger, with some papers suggesting we are leading the race and some insisting that we’re not interested in paying the gargantuan sum that Borussia Dortmund will be looking for.

The Star have reported that Liverpool will instead look to buy Leon Bailey from Bayer Leverkusen. The Jamaican winger has netted three goals in five starts this season for the German side. Bailey claimed in 2018 that he rejected Liverpool before moving to Germany, not wanting to make the step up too soon.

What RTK has to say

Liverpool signing Leon Bailey a lot more sense than signing Jadon Sancho. He would cost a fraction of what the English winger would cost – although he would still command a steep fee.

One concern with signing the Jamaican is his discipline, Bailey has already been sent off twice this season and that is something Klopp wouldn’t tolerate. However, we did sign Xherdan Shaqiri and turn his attitude around – the Swiss midfielder was known for being petulant at times during his spell with Stoke City.
