Branthwaite plays as a centre back for League Two side Carlisle, he has made nine appearances this campaign – an impressive stat given that he is just 17-years-old.

Any defender managing to start in the first team at 17-years-old is bound to raise eyebrows throughout the country. Branthwaite has been attracting the attention of clubs around Europe thanks to his composure beyond his years.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool have joined the race for Jarrad Branthwaite after neighbours Everton have had a £500k bid rejected. The report claims that Carlisle have slapped an £800k price tag on their starlet.

We may not know much about him but Liverpool signing Jarrad Branthwaite seems like a no brainer. At £800k he could be an absolute bargain, of course there will be add ons but we can cross that bridge when we come to it.

Any footballer starting in the heart of the defence a this age must have something about them. With a host of other sides chasing the youngster, we should bite the bullet and steal a march on our rivals – he would be a relatively inexpensive gamble.
