Sparks will fly in this January transfer window. A lot of teams are underperforming in the Premier League and the race for the top four is tight, we can expect the likes of Arsenal and Spurs to add to their squads. The two North London clubs have been linked with defensive additions, we believe the Reds should beat them to one of their reported targets – Liverpool should join the race for Dayot Upamecano.

The Daily Star have reported that Arsenal, Spurs and Manchester City are all chasing RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano. The 21-year-old Frenchman plays as a centre half for the German side but can also be deployed as a full back.
Regarded as one of the brightest defensive prospects in the world, Leipzig will demand a huge fee for their prospect. The Daily Star have reported the figure would have to be close to £50m, stating that Leipzig have previously refused any amount below the player’s £92m release clause.
Liverpool should join the race for Dayot Upamecano because he suits our transfer policy perfectly: he is young, good with the ball at his feet and versatile.
Signing the Frenchman would give us a headstart on the planned squad overhaul in a few year’s time. As our stars age, we need to have talented young players to step into their shoes – Dayot Upamecano and Joe Gomez hitting their prime at similar times whilst partnered at Liverpool could be a frightening prospect.
Whoever wins the auction for the 21-year-old will be getting one of the game’s next great defenders. If the Reds win the race and he joins our ranks of talented youngsters, we will have a squad fit to dominate for a decade.
