In all of footballing history there are few better passers of the ball than Xavi. The Spaniard enjoyed a long and illustrious career with Barcelona, achieving legendary status there. Speaking to FIFA during the Club World Cup, Xavi described Liverpool as “perfect” under Jürgen Klopp.
Xavi has enjoyed an extraordinary career in football. The playmaker spent 24 years with Barcelona, joining the youth setup in 1991 and leaving the first team in 2015.
The midfielder was took home third place at the Ballon d’Or ceremony on three occasions, he won three major tournaments for his country and took home four Champions League winner medals. He boasts an embarrassment of domestic honours.
Now managing Al-Sadd, the Barcelona legend missed out on a chance to face the Reds in the Club World Cup semi finals. Speaking to FIFA during the tournament, Xavi heaped praise on Liverpool, saying:
“What stands out for me is their intensity. The intensity they play with both in defence and attack, the high press by the front three…they’re a very difficult team to attack. Physically they’re very strong. They win all the second balls and they also work really hard on their tactics. They dominate so many areas of the game. Their transitions in attack and defence are just about perfect.”

What RTK has to say
It is an honour to hear high praise from a figure such as Xavi. Genius recognises genius; the Spaniard was one of the most intelligent footballers of his day and his breakdown Liverpool’s style shows a keen understanding of what makes Jürgen Klopp’s men so impossible to beat.
It is a pity that we won’t have a chance to face the ex-Barcelona man in the Club World Cup, it would have been interesting to see him in action in the dugout. Unfortunately his side fell to a 3-2 defeat against Monterrey.
