They left it late but they always do it in the end. After a long hard slog against a spirited Mexican outfit, Roberto Firmino netted the winning goal in stoppage time, the Reds ran out 2-1 winners. Here are our Liverpool player ratings v Monterrey:
Goalkeeper: Alisson Becker – 8
The Brazilian pulled off some smart stops with the Mexican side shooting on sight.
Right back: James Milner – 6
He isn’t a right back but Milly performed admirably.
Centre back: Jordan Henderson – 7
Jordan stepped into defence and looked assured for the most part, he offered a different dynamic when playing out from the back.
Centre back: Joe Gomez – 7
JoGo did more than enough keep his place in the side.
Left back: Andy Robertson – 6
The Scotsman wasn’t at his best but everybody is allowed an off game.
Centre midfield: Naby Keita – 8
Another game, another goal – always threatening on the ball, Naby Keita deserves his eight in our Liverpool player ratings v Monterrey.
Centre midfield: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6
The Ox was bright and inventive and showed his class whilst dribbling. He will be featuring heavily in the New Year.
Centre midfield: Adam Lallana – 5
Lallana was anonymous for the most part – he needs to assert himself more in future. Honestly forgot he was playing during the first half.
Left wing: Xherdan Shaqiri – 6
The Swiss midfielder has been more effectual in the past than he was today.
Right wing: Mo Salah – 7
Another delightful assist, the Egyptian is in a rich vein of form at the minute.
Striker: Divock Origi – 5
Big Div tried a lot but nothing game off. He missed a sitter in the second half and will need to do better in the coming months.
Sub: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 8
He just changes every game he plays in. His assist for the winner was just magic.
Sub: Roberto Firmino – 8
What can we say? The best in the world is Bobby Firmino, he took the winner excellently.
Sub: Sadio Mane – 6.5
He quickened the pace and caused the defence problems.
