The January window is edging closer and transfer speculation is intensifying. With Liverpool having saved their money over the summer following a Champions League win, many pundits have been tipping Jürgen Klopp to add to his side in the New Year. Reports out of Italy (via Sport Witness) are now claiming that Napoli are worried that Liverpool will outbid them for Sander Berge.
Sander Berge made quite an impression on the Reds and the Italians this season. The 21-year-old holding midfielder played for Genk against the sides in the Champions League group stage.
The Norwegian clocks in at 6 foot 5 inches tall, making him an imposing presence in the middle of the park. The media have suggested that the youngster could be an understudy to Fabinho at Liverpool.
What RTK has to say
The last month has shown that the Reds are in desperate need of a backup defensive midfielder. Whilst Jordan Henderson has performed admirably in the holding role, we have had to switch our formation to cope with the absence of Fabinho.
Manchester City reached 100 points because they had two world class players for each position. If the Reds sign Sander Berge they may not have a ready made world class footballer but the tutelage of Jürgen Klopp should nudge the player in the right direction.
We certainly need the depth, whether or not the Reds’ interest in Berge is all just paper talk or not remains to be seen but we can be certain that the recruitment team will make the right call.
