With the Reds having made no major summer signings, rumours are gathering pace that Jürgen Klopp may look to add to his squad in January. According to a journalist in Italy, Liverpool are set to beat Napoli to the signature of Sander Berge. The Norwegian midfielder has a long list of admirers.
Goal reported this week that Chelsea had also joined the race for the 6 foot 5 inch defensive midfielder. Berge has played every minute of the Belgian side’s Champions League campaign this season. With the club bottom of their group in Europe and struggling in the league, there is little motivation for the Norwegian to stick around much longer.
Ciro Venerato, who works as a journalist for Italian agency RAI, spoke to CalcioNapoli TV on Monday. When asked about the emerging battle over Genk’s midfielder, Venerato told CalcioNapoli: “Berge? If Napoli goes for a player stalked by Liverpool, they come second. It is well known that there are major clubs in the world. They like Berge, but I don’t know if he will come.”
What RTK has to say
Europe are waking up to the rekindled might of the Reds. Liverpool edging out Napoli in the battle for Sander Berge would be just another confirmation of the Anfield side’s current supremacy.
With back to back Champions League finals under their belt, winning the second, Merseyside has become an enticing prospect for ambitious young talents. Jürgen Klopp has shown that he has a knack for getting the best out of players and footballers will be lining up to learn from him as a result.
