With Arsenal still without a permanent manager and result still faltering, it looks as though the announcement of a new gaffer is imminent. The BBC have reported that Arsenal are in talks with Mikel Arteta as they look to fill the position. According to The Star, if Arteta takes the job at The Emirates, Pep Guardiola will move for Xabi Alonso to fill his assistant role.
According to the report, Liverpool legend Alonso and Giovanni van Bronckhorst are the two leading candidates to replace Mikel Arteta at the Etihad should he move back to North London.
Xabi has previous with Guardiola, the pair worked together whilst at Bayern Munich – enjoying great success during their time there.
The former Reds midfielder is currently in charge of Real Sociedad’s B team and is doing well – his side are currently third in the Segunda Division B.

This would be an absolute nightmare. Personally, Pep Guardiola appointing Xabi Alonso doesn’t seem too likely. The ex-Red still adores the club and he would be well aware of how much it would hurt Kopites to see him in the Etihad dugout.
If he were to take the job it would sting but we wouldn’t hold it against him. We will likely never see a player like Xabi again, I’ve never quite got over us losing him. One of the modern game’s greatest ever playmakers.
Whilst Mikel Arteta moving to Arsenal could benefit us by unsettling the Citizens camp, it could have a negative side effect if Pep Guardiola brings in Xabi Alonso.
